Description
The MUCARNA collection is inspired by the flat sections of the ceilings of mocárabes, also known as mucarnas, in Hispano-Muslim architecture. The Alhambra in Granada is the best place to observe this artistic technique of Hispano-Muslim art.
The Andalusian mocárabe is the result of the projection into space of a mosaic floor plan consisting of a collection of four basic pieces or tesserae:
1. CONZA
2. ‘half square’ which we will call MUCARNA
3. DUMBAQUE
4. JAIRA
Inspired by these four shapes, I have designed four corresponding climbing holds that are named after the prism types derived from Hispano-Muslim architecture.
This defines a structure consisting of a small collection of individual pieces and simple rules of aggregation or composition with which it is possible to form more complex combinations of great
diversity.
